Thanks to the innovation of Emilia Gotsis, Omega Produce Company is the success it is today. In 1950 Emilia founded Omega Produce. She had worked with other produce companies in the old downtown Nogales and was one of the few women involved in the industry at the time. After many years of long 16 hour days, the outcome was worth it. Emilia became well respected in the industry for her diligence, dedication and intelligence. She continued her work with Omega until her death in 1998.
Meanwhile, George Gotsis, now president and owner, joined his father, Nick Gotsis Limberopulos, a Greek native, in the agricultural fields of Mexico in 1947 right after serving in WWII. George worked in his father´s farming operation for 5 years, learning a hands-on approach to produce. He joined his sister Emilia at Omega in 1951. Since his early days with Omega in the 1950's, George has handled domestic sales and the overall growth of the business. George now handles researching and financing top growers in Mexico and oversees all decisions regarding the company.
His son J. Nick Gotsis Rico is now the vice president. Nick graduated from NAU in 1986 with a degree in marketing and since then has worked in all areas of the company from accounting to sales. In 1993 Nick took over the reins of domestic sales and has had a great impact on the company, updating all their computer software, hardware and automating the whole company structure from sales to warehouse activities and administration.
Toru Fujiwara, originally from Japan is the current Secretary & Treasurer of Omega Produce. He joined the company in the 1980´s and was the first to distribute kabocha squash to Japan.
